Jacket
Racket Project 2018
The Grade 4 Peace Ambassadors are
running the annual Jacket Racket Project this year. They will run the
collection of clothing items from Thursday October 25 to Friday
November 2.
We are looking for 1-2 parent volunteers
to come in fist thing in the morning for during that time to assist the
students with sorting and bagging the collected items. One group of students will collect
the items from classrooms and the other group will help sort the items with the
parent volunteer. There
will be sorting bins, bags and labels set up in the hub and parent volunteers
can expect to be there from about 8:30 to 9 AM. If you can help us out, please sign up at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080d44afab28abf94-jacket1
Volunteers must have completed
their police security checks and have their security clearance.
Thank you for volunteering your
time!
Reflecting on Glenbow Ranch
We took some time to reflect as a large group on
our trip to Glenbow Ranch today. We used the format of I saw, I noticed, I
wonder to help frame our thoughts. This routine helps students
make careful observations and develop their own ideas and
interpretations based on what they see. By separating the two questions,
What do you see? and What did you
think about what you noticed? The routine helps students
distinguish between observations and interpretations. As we move through each stage our writing will be deeper and
more detailed.
Word Work
We practiced and sorted our individual word lists. We
sorted words according to word families, blends and/or consonant/vowel
patterns. We are working towards noticing word families and using our knowledge
of them to support our spelling in our everyday writing.
Place Value
We continued to deepen our understanding of place
value, focusing on different ways to express numbers. Students worked on
showing numbers in expanded form. Challenge each other at home to do the
same.
