In support of our veterans, we are collecting non-perishable
food items for the Veterans’ Food Bank. We welcome donations from
students and those attending our ceremony on Friday. Collection boxes
will be located in the Hub.
Book
Orders
Book orders went home today. They are due by
Wednesday November 14th. Students have the option of bringing home a flyer or
you can visit the website at www.scholastic.ca/canadaclubs.
When making online orders please make sure Mr. Lawson's name is on the order. If you're making a paper
order please return with cash or cheque (made out to Scholstic Canada) by the
due date or you can just pay online. Thank you for supporting your child’s reading success both at
home and in the classroom!
Buddy Reading
We worked on reading with a partner focusing on enjoying
reading and reading with support. Students were engaged and focused and really
enjoyed learning and practicing reading with partner. Expectations are that
students follow along as their partner reads, offer time and/or help as needed and take turns reading the entire time.
The structure of a story...
Suspense is what
every good story needs. Students are learning that suspense needs to be built
up with a foundational connection to the characters. The suspense enters a
story when a problem is interjected thus disrupting the character(s) perfect
life and creating a fork in the road where tough decisions need to be made. We
are seeing some excellent stories developing and the students can't wait for
you to read them!
Remembrance Day Preparation
We took some time to make poppies to attach to our
Remembrance Day wreath. We also read a book entitled, Proud as a Peacock, Brave
as a Lion. It is a beautiful story about a grandfather who relays his
experience being a soldier in the war to his grandchild. We also learned about
how the donating to the poppy fund and veterans' food bank helps veterans' and
military families in need.
